Quality dog ​​food contains a lot of protein from meat. High quality dog ​​food contains all the nutrients your friend needs. In addition, many dry foods contain natural ingredients that improve, for example, joints, fur and digestive systems. Fat is important for dogs, so the right amount should be included in each dog's diet. For example, puppies, bitches with puppies and active dogs need more fatty food than others. Quality dog ​​food contains a reasonable amount of carbohydrates and a pinch of fiber that strengthens the good bacteria in the dog's intestines.

The first impression may be that the food seems perfectly okay, but when you take a look at the table of contents it may turn out to contain a number of strange things. Consider the order in which the ingredients are listed. The first on the list is what the food contains most. In high quality dog ​​food it should be meat. It is always a good sign if you can easily find ingredients such as chicken, pork, duck or lamb. Avoid strange ingredients like "animal by-product".

  • The coat is shiny and the skin looks healthy, the dog itches and does not gnaw on itself.

  • The stool is firm in shape, the stomach works well and the nutrition is absorbed by the body.

  • The dog's breath does not smell bad.

  • The eyes are clear and not flowy.

  • The dog has enough energy and eats with good appetite.

 

Different individuals - different needs

When you start to find out what characterizes high quality dog ​​food, it is important to find the right food for your dog. Then there are several things to consider:

  • Dog's age - a dog's nutritional needs change with age. Puppies that are still diarrhea but are being weaned around the age of 3-6 weeks may need special dog food. Then they get a more general puppy feed until they are about a year old. Following puppy feed is followed by adult food, which is usually used until the dog is around 6–8 years (recommendation varies between manufacturers). This is then replaced by mature food up to about 10 years and senior food thereafter, depending on how the dog has aged.

 

  • Dog size - the size difference between different dog breeds varies enormously compared to cats, for example. Most dog food manufacturers also divide their dog food according to the dog size they are adapted for. How many classes vary, but small, medium and large are usually the minimum. Determining exactly where the border goes can be difficult, and several hundred breeds are definitely in the border country. You can see a general recommendation below:
